Our Leakproof Period Underwear features multi-layer technology that differs from style to style, but works to ensure you stay fresh, dry and protected. For example, in our Super Leakproof™ No-Show Bikini, the top layer wicks away moisture from your skin; the inner-layer absorbs the liquid and locks it in; and the outer layer keeps any liquid from spotting your clothes.
Depending on the size and style of underwear, the leakproof gusset ranges from around 7.5” to 9” long. Our Super Leakproof(TM) Underwear features a 25% bigger gusset, with more of the coverage in the front of the underwear. For overnight leakproof protection, our Super Leakproof(TM) Dream Short gusset ranges from 10” to 14” long.

Do I need to wear a pad or tampon with period underwear? The short answer: nope! Depending on the absorbency level of your period underwear and the heaviness of your flow, you can wear our period undies on their own or as a backup to tampons or menstrual cups.
Thinx: Thinx's Super Panty claims to hold up to 45mL of fluid. Knix: Knix's Super Leakproof Underwear claims to hold up to 40mL of fluid. ONDR: ONDR panties can hold up to 1/4cup of fluid, or 59mL.
The settlement benefits consumers who purchased Knix products between Jan. 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2022. According to the class action lawsuit, Knix period underwear products contain dangerous PFAS chemicals despite the manufacturer's marketing that the panties are free of toxic chemicals.
Will they support a full bladder release? Our leak-absorbing underwear holds up to 100 mL for light protection from bladder leaks. We don't recommend using our product to support a full bladder release.
If they aren't cleaned thoroughly or dried properly after washing, bacteria or ammonia can accumulate, leading to persistent smells. Always rinse your period pants thoroughly after wearing in cold water, ideally until the water runs clear.
Our bladder leak-absorbing underwear features our signature, innovative built-in absorbent technology within the gusset of the underwear — a moisture-wicking top layer, an ultra-absorbent core layer, and a moisture-impermeable layer that leaves you feeling fresh and dry.
If you are not into internal options such as a tampon or cup, there are now leak-proof swimsuits and swim bottoms that require an accompanying pad. Period swimwear has a hidden-layer liner or absorbent gusset sewn into the crotch to catch any menstrual blood or leaks from your pad.
“Period underwear can be worn as an alternative or enhancement to tampons or menstrual cups,” she says. “They can be more comfortable than traditional feminine hygiene products.” If you're new to period underwear, Dr. Guster recommends trying them at night first to see how they work for you.
Lower TSS Risk: Pads pose a lower risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) compared to internal products like tampons. Since pads are external and do not involve any form of insertion, the likelihood of TSS is minimized.
Even the lightest tampons are meant to absorb a lot more stuff than you will make in a normal day when you are not on your period. You won't be wet enough down there and the tampon won't get full enough to be comfortable going in or coming out. It's not fun taking out a nearly dry tampon – ouch!
